The Premier League Handicap 2010

by Josh Powell | August 9, 2010

It’s back! And if not bigger than ever (there’s still 20 teams – what do you want us to do?) it’s certainly the most interesting Premier League season for some time. Whether you think Spurs or City are ready to challenge or a plucky underdog has just enough fight to take the (handicap) title, it’s a fascinating challenge to pick a winner. Here’s a few teams that catch this particular eye:

With 44 handicap points the Latics are an interesting proposition. Last season was up and down but Martinez has strengthened effectively in the summer and there’s plenty of upside here. 50 points could be enough to see them top the table

Was last season a blip or are Spurs in the top four to stay? If the latter is the case, 17 points looks like a generous head start. If Modric stays fit for the season and the defence tightens up – even just a bit – they could certainly figure

Last season Stoke did the almost impossible (in recent years) and improved the league position YOY in their second Premier League season. There’s no indication that Tony Pulis won’t keep his eye on the ball and if Carlton Cole arrives and holds down the problem position up front, there’s no reason they can’t push on. With 40 points in the bank they have every chance

Signing Martin Petrov could be massive, and new look Bolton are sure to start winning a few friends this year with a more attractive style (ie not kicking 7 shades of shite out of the opposition).  Every chance of adding a decent total to their 41 head start and figuring towards the end of the season.
