Not that we’d count ourselves as members of the press but we for one have no desire to see Wayne Rooney electrocuted, unless it’s part of a sex scandal tape and even then we suspect a Two Girls, One Cup type reaction, but Alex Ferguson’s indignant pre-emptive strike against the media backlash shouldn’t be allowed cloud the issue. Which is that Wayne Rooney, completely without provocation or even the thinly veiled excuse of making an uncouth ‘striker’s challenge’, elbowed James McCarthy in the head. Mr Rooney inevitably attracts more attention than your average player but that’s no reason to let him break the rules. He should be handed a 3 game suspension so we can all move on and if he isn’t, the FA should be derided for their cowardice.
