I’m claiming a win in my attempts to toughen up last week’s ‘Who’s Career Is It Anyway?’ competition. The number of correct answers was down, but that could also mean that people are already sick of our relentless flogging to death of the same competition. I’m going to ignore that distinct possibility to tell you it was a resounding success and if you did get it right, you’ve got a better chance of being pulled out of the hat.
No-one embarrassed themselves enough with a terrible answer that would earn them a complete mocking, but there is a special mention for one entrant. He had a cunning plan to increase his chances of winning by sending his answer from four separate email addresses under various assumed identities. His ingenious plan somewhat failed when he guessed Bill Shankly in each of the emails. It wasn’t Bill Shankly. The logic of naming a Scottish person that’s been to Liverpool was arguably sound, but equally that would have made Billy Connolly a decent guess.
The answer was none other than Pat Nevin, who started his career playing for Clyde in a town called Cumbernauld – which can lay claim to be both a suburb of Glasgow and Edinburgh – he moved to Chelsea, then Everton hopping across the Mersey to play for Tranmere before going kind of home with spells in Kilmarnock and Motherwell.
Last week we launched our Cash For Retweets bonus which aimed to bump up the prize fund by adding a £/€1 for each retweet we got. The Twitter gizmo counter thingy tells us it was tweeted 43 times, so taking into account my propensity to shamelessly whore out my own work, we’ll conservatively say 10 of those tweets were from Paddy Power Twitter accounts, which means 33 weren’t and therefore €/£33 extra goes into the prize pool. That means the prize on offer is a €/£83 Free Bet and without further unnecessary waffling the winner is Andy Lynch.
Thanks for entering. Thanks for all the retweets – (Andy really appreciates them).
We’ll have more competition fun later today!
