Not only did Roy Carroll make a save…actually, let me jump back a few steps. Did you know former Manchester United keeper Roy Carroll (34) is still playing football? Well, he is. And not for some non-league pub team as most of you are presuming. Instead he’s playing for a side fighting for a title in one of Europe’s top second-tier leagues. The man once known as Calamity Carroll, for instances like this howler against Spurts, made his debut for Olympiakos last night in their Europa League first-round tie with Rubin Kazan. The first choice stopper, Balazs Megyeri, was sent off for giving away a penalty, which Carroll came on and – drum roll – saved. So let’s recap. He’s still playing football, he’s playing for a top side in a good league and he’s making important saves. It’s a funny old game indeed.
