TEENAGE singing star Mark Boylan is becoming a regular at the big racing festivals. The 14-year-old from Banagher, Co Offaly, has sung at Cheltenham both days this week as he builds up to performing his tribute to Kauto Star at Friday’s Gold Cup.
But he might need to have a few bob on the outcome of the feature race to cover the cost of a €70 surcharge imposed by Ryanair for carrying his guitar on board their flight to Bolton earlier this week. Not that he’s complaining mind, as racing-mad Boylan is a fan of Ryanair boss and Gigginstown House supremo, Michael O’Leary.
“I can’t fault Michael O’Leary as he pumps so much money into horse racing. He’s so generous to the game,” Boylan said. The teenager has already played in the United States where he was treated by Breeders Cup organisers to an all-expenses-paid trip to perform his self-penned “Stateside” last October.
