When he returned to Anfield, Liverpool supporters hailed the return of the king. The fairytale that was the second stint of Kenny Dalglish is quickly turning in to a nightmare. The Kop has yet to ring with boos but Kenny’s name is being sung less and less.
After losing 2-1 at home to relegation threatened Wigan, Dalglish cited tiredness. A week of rest prior to the Newcastle game should have remedied that. It didn’t. So when Liverpool were beaten comfortably by Newcastle away from home, the excuse changed from tiredness to frustration. And then last Saturday his team squandered chance after chance to drop two more points at home in a draw with Aston Villa. This time the referee’s unwillingness to award a penalty was the cause of failure.
Will he be scratching around for an excuse after tonight’s game away to Blackburn?
Liverpool have only won once in their last five visits to Ewood Park and were held to a 1-1 draw when the teams met in Anfield back in December. The 11/10 on a Liverpool win looks far less of a good bet than it should. Particularly when you look at the £105m Dalglish has spent since taking over in January of last year.
The Reds have also managed just a single Premier League victory in their last nine attempts, picking up a paltry five points during this run. Over the same number of games Blackburn have won three times and picked up a total of ten points. On recent form alone, Rovers should be the favourites. You can back them to win tonight at a tasty price of 5/2. If Blackburn win Paddy Power will refund all losing First Goalscorer, Last Goalscorer, Correct Score & Scorecast singles on the match.
A home win would be a great result for Blackburn and our customers but one which could very well edge the King closer to the exit.
