This week’s Paddy Power blog Padcast is a winner all right. We’re talking Grand National, the FA Cup semi-finals and something very odd happening to Darren Bent in FIFA 12.
Chris Cook, deputy racing editor on The Guardian’s sports desk joins the Paddy Power blog conversation on this week’s Aintree Grand National. All involved are particularly hopeful of headlines centred on Shakalakaboomboom on Sunday morning.
Meanwhile, Neil Jones of the Liverpool Echo, the Liverpool Echo, the Liverpool Echo (sorry) – who does work like this – talks about this Saturday’s giant FA Cup semi-final clash between Liverpool and Everton. Neil digs into the history of the sides and, in particular, expresses his surprise at the match odds and this Liverpool team’s lack of big-game experience.
It’s a matched steeped in tradition and all that clichéd stuff (see the above YouTube clip for 80s evidence). Poignantly, one minute’s silence will be held before both of this weekend’s FA Cup semi-finals at Wembley to mark the 23rd anniversary of the Hillsborough. Players from all teams involved will also wear black armbands in memory of the 96 Liverpool fans who died on April 15, 1989 at the semi-final with Nottingham Forest.
Neil tells our Padcast host Ciaran O Raghallaigh: “Merseyside can be revitalised this weekend. Fans have a duty to bring it back.”
Meanwhile, we did mention Darren Bent. Above, he gets some unwanted attention from Brazil keeper Julio Cesar in a FIFA 12 clip that went viral via YouTube. Hopefully the Euros will be as entertaining.
