ALL SMILES: Brendan Rodgers is set to replace Kenny Dalglish as Liverpool’s new boss

Brendan Rodgers has scored his first victory as new Liverpool manager by refusing to work under a sporting director at the Anfield club.

The Swansea boss showeed his mettle for the challenge ahead by refusing to work under Dutch maestro Louis Van Gaal as Reds’ owners FSG looked to put a dream team together to restore Liverpudlian pride.

Wigan’s Roberto Martinez had been heavily backed all last week in Paddy Power’s online football betting in a market that had attracted huge attention since Reds’ legend Kenny Dalglish was sacked three weeks ago.

Now that the vacancy is finally filled Rodgers will have to plot Liverpool’s rise up the Premier League table and qualification for the Champions League next season.

Meanwhile, the Sun reports that Paul Lambert has quit as Norwich manager  over the club’s refusal to let him speak to Aston Villa over their managerial vacancy since Alex McLeish was sacked.
