Eden Hazard (21) is now off the rumour radar after signing for Chelsea in the summer’s first big money move. Choosing the Blues over other potential Premier League suitors because of their recent success. And the fact that they’re willing to pay him a shed load more than anyone else offered. It’s probably mainly the wages thing though.
Shinji Kagawa’s (23) transfer from Borussia Dortmund to Manchester United has also been agreed, according to the BBC, for a reported initial fee of £12m.
We’re also seeing the first tests of Manchester City’s believed position amongst the football elite. Real Madrid are rumoured to be interested in City’s Spanish star David Silva (26) but the diminutive playmaker’s agent has dismissed the possibility of a move out of hand. Sergio Aguero (24) has similarly committed his immediate future to the club so the only players leaving the Etihad Stadium this summer will be those Roberto Mancini no longer has any use for.
Tottenham Hotspur are failing to see a similar level of loyalty from their players, who are clearly disappointed about not qualifying for next season’s Champions League. The rumour linking Rafael van der Vaart (29) with a £10m move to Bundesliga side Schalke is refusing to go away. Mainly because the player is refusing to rule it out. His ridiculously attractive wife works in Germany which would be more than enough motivation for us. If other big Spurs players start to leave, the Dutchman won’t be too far behind.
The biggest Spurs player on the brink of moving on is Luka Modric (26). The Croatian midfielder has long been a target for Manchester United and if he is losing faith in Harry Redknapp then this could be the summer he moves on. No money has been mentioned but it’s sure to be £20m+.
Gareth Bale (22) is also thought to be in line for a move with the blue half of Manchester cited as his most likely destination. He’ll probably cost a lot more than Modric thanks to the media.
Sebastien Bassong (25) could be on his way out of White Hart Lane as Caludio Ranieri wants to bring him to Monaco. He could be quickly replaced by Ajax’s Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen (25) who is on a verge of signing for the Londoners according to the Daily Mail.
Spurs are also linked with moves for West Ham’s Robert Green (32) and James Tomkins (23). We’re presuming West Ham are forcing Spurs to take Green if they want Tomkins. With Huerelho Gomes still on the books, how many suspect stoppers do they need?
Rodgers won’t lose Luis
Rumours linking Liverpool bad-boy Luis Suarez (25) with a move to Juventus appear to be dead in the water as new boss Brendan Rodgers refuses to let him leave.
Aiden McGeady (26) is being linked with a move from Spartak Moscow, where he has fallen down the pecking order, to Sunderland. The £10m being bandied around is a lot to pay for a player who too often flatters to deceive. A poor Euro 2012 campaign should help the Black Cats out on that score.
Arsenal midfielder Tomas Rosicky (31) is reportedly a target for Turkish side Eskisehirspor. Having just signed a new contract at the Emirates and Eskisehirspor not offering Champions League football, this one seems unlikely.
