2.30 Group 2 Norfolk Stakes
Mick Channon’s son told me at Epsom that Cay Verdi is one of the best 5f colts they’ve trained. This is way more competitive than they’ve faced. Interesting that Richard Hughes has chosen to partner Annunciation for Richard Hannon although Mister Marc has looked the better horse. But from what I’m hearing they’ll be very disappointed if Cay Verdi gets beat.
3.05 Ribblesdale Stakes
It’s a fantastic renewal, it could really be the Oaks field. Dermot Weld’s Princess Highway from Ireland is sure to run well at an each-way price. The Fugue was very unlucky in the Oaks and this could be the recovery mission. The Fugue is the one to beat but Princess Highway each-way as she’s a fresher horse.
3.45 Ascot Gold Cup
Fame and Glory is a cracking horse but has a couple of tough nuts in Saddler’s Rock and Opinion Poll to get past this year. Frankie Dettori has deserted Opinion Poll in favour of Colour Vision who smashed the track record at Kempton the last time but for me I’m going to stick with Fame and Glory for Ireland.
4.25 Britannia Stakes
This is hugely competitive and it’s no wonder Paddy Power are paying the first five in the online betting. Jamie Spencer rides Born to Surprise for Michael Bell and it’s always worth looking at Gerard Butler’s runners in these handicaps and he saddles Prince Alazain. But Willie Haggas has the top one Kahruman keeping the weights down for his other runner Fast or Free ridden by Ryan Moore. This is on the upgrade and should run a blinder.
5.00 Tercentenary Stakes
It’s interesting that Tom Queally has chosen Wrotham Heath from the Henry Cecil yard when he could have chosen Stipulate. Starboard for Rewarded is a decent horse but the one I like is Michael Stoute’s Tales of Grimm who ran behind Stipulate was given a nice introduction that night. The extra two furlongs will suit and he could have some potential.
5.35 King George V Stakes
This is absolutely wide-open. Uriah Heep is quite decent while there is a strong whisper for Niceofyoutotellme. NicolasCopernicus has been winning eased down and has gone up in the handicap but is open to more improvement even with the penalty. He’s the one for me but Niceofyoutotellme is well fancied.
