SW19 is the place to be right now – there is action, moments of awe and a buzz of excitement ringing all around the place.

It is easy to see why too, as Wimbledon 2012 is already setting itself up to be one of the most memorable Grand Slam events on the tennis calendar this year.

What’s more, we are only two days through, which means there is plenty of drama to go and loads of betting opportunities on offer on Centre Court, No 1 Court and beyond.

Day Three sees the action switch back to the top half of the brackets, which also indicates that reigning men’s champion Novak Djokovic will soon be reaching for his tennis racket once more.

Those who were thinking that the Serb was going to meet a worthy challenger in the form of Juan Carlos Ferrero must have been shellshocked when the Spaniard fell 6-3, 6-3, 6-1 in the first-round tie.

Pity the man who goes up against the tank that is Djokovic next – step forward Ryan Harrison. Paddy Power is offering just 1/100 for the world number one to claim his place in the third-round today, and even that seems like a reasonable bet.

But shocks can happen on the tennis court – just ask Venus Williams if you don’t believe me.

The five-time Wimbledon champion looked assured of victory against Elena Vesnina before her first round match but by the time game, set and match was called, the score was 6-1, 6-3 in the Russian’s favour.

Women’s tennis at SW19 this year is definitely the place to see drama, with Heather Watson becoming the first British woman since Jo Durie in 1985 to record victory in a ladies single match on Centre Court. Not bad for a 20-year-old rookie.

But Watson is not finished yet, declaring: “I am very pleased with my first-round win but I’m not satisfied with just that.

“I am looking forward to my next match against Jamie Hampton and I am looking to go deep into the tournament and not settle for one win.”

Move over Andy Murray, there is a new sheriff in town. Watson is 4/11 with Paddy Power to beat Hampton and book her place in the third-round, while the American is 15/8 to break British tennis fans’ hearts once more.

Other highlights of the day’s action at Wimbledon include Roger Federer continuing his charge into the history books as he looks to get past Fabio Fognini, while Maria Sharapova tries to strut her stuff on court against Bulgaria’s Anastasia Rodionova.

This year all of the matches at Wimbledon will be streamed on PPtv for Ireland and UK customers
