Bunbury Cup (2.40)
This one was just touched off in the Buckingham Palace Stakes and Marnane’s sprinters are always worth following in English handicaps as proven by Dandy Boy’s victory at 33/1 at the same meeting. He is one to keep on the right side if he lines up on Saturday as trainer David Marnane is worried about the draw and the ground.
William Haggis’s Cape Classic has plenty of momentum behind him after beating Bathwick Bear last time. If Lee Carter’s surprise package and seven-race winner Prince of Sorrento lines up he could be worth an each-way punt.
July Cup (3.20)
The Group One July Cup 7f on the same day usually identifies Europe’s top sprinter and there’s a stellar line-up as usual.
Bated Breath heads the field on 4/1 after finishing second at Royal Ascot in the King Stand Stakes. There is a doubt about his participation with trainer Roger Charlton leaving a decision until Saturday morning. Society Rock had a mountain to climb against Black Caviar at the same venue and may appreciate the step up in trip here and is pushing for favouritism at 9/2. David Marnane has supplemented Royal Ascot winner Dandy Boy for this Group One contest while Strong Suit was also supplemented by the Richard Hannon team.
