PADCAST: McAteer on why Liverpool need a big name signing

by Josh Powell | July 18, 2012

DANGEROUS DAVE: Could the deadly Villa be playing in front of the Kop?

Listen here |

‘I’d love to see a big-name signing come to the club. We’ve got the basis of these young players at Liverpool now lets go and buy someone like David Villa. Go and give us a big name that slots into the team, has plenty of experience, has got the quality, got the class and lets go and build a team’, Jason McAteer.

Fresh from ironing his white suit and advertising Head & Shoulders, former Liverpool midfielder Jason McAteer took some time out to come on the Padcast and tell us exactly what he thinks of the Reds.

McAteer didn’t hold back as he picked apart the Anfield side and selected his ideal transfers this summer. He thinks the jury is out on Brendan Rodgers and tells us that the signing of Borini will end Andy Carroll’s career on Merseyside.

There are certain things in football that follow a script and this is doing just that. The doors wide open and they’re looking for transfers. He doesn’t want to leave the football club but it will come down to the transfer fee. He’s just got himself into the England set-up and to stay there he needs to be playing regular first-team football.

The 41-year-old has high hopes for his former side this season but it’s not a view the Padcast panal necessarily agree with!
