Alex Ferguson is still chasing a number of pre-season targets despite reports linking Manchester United to Brazilian ace Lucas Moura. The 19-year-old Sao Paulo winger played the last 22 minutes of the 2-0 win over Team GB ahead of the Men’s Olympic football tournament.  

Chelsea’s Frank Lampard has refused to rule out a move to Major League Soccer in the United States next year. Lampard holidayed in Los Angeles and was spotted with David Beckham who along with Robbie Keane now plays for LA Galaxy.

The long-running Portsmouth saga is close to an unhappy ending for Pompey unless eight players agree to reduced wages. The seaside town’s administrator has warned that unless costs are cut in the next two weeks the closed sign will be hung on the gates.   


Racing this afternoon goes ahead at Ayr (2.00), Cartmel (2.10) and Southwell (2.20). Windsor (6.10) and Beverley (6.30) are under orders tonight together with Ballinrobe (5.50) in Ireland as the build-up to the Galway Festival next Monday starts in earnest.


Adam Scott has been priced up at 25/1 to atone for his Open Championship nightmare at next month’s final Major the US PGA Championship. Open winner Ernie Els is a 40/1 shot with Tiger Woods heading the field at 15/2 in Paddy Power’s online betting.


Fernando Alonso heads the betting for the Hungarian Grand Prix next Sunday after his win on Sunday in the German Grand Prix.
