The attention switches to the track and field events at London 2012 with Team GB heptathlon favourite Jessica Ennis running in Heat 5 of the 100m hurdles.  Ennis is 8/11 favourite in Paddy Power’s online betting to win the seven-event discipline ahead of Russia’s Tatyana Chernova at 7/4.

Michael Phelps extended his amazing Olympic medal haul to 20 after beating nemesis Ryan Lochte in the 200m individual medley last night. In doing so he became the first man to win the same individual event at three different Olympics.

The Bullet of Baltimore goes for a “threepeat” in the 100m butterfly today before ditching his speedos after the men’s 4x100m relay on Saturday.

Ireland’s Fionnuala Britton will line-up in the final of the Women’s 10,000m final tonight at 9.25pm. The gold medalist at the 2011 European Cross Country Championship has her work cut out to be among the medals though.

Football

Brendan Rodger’s first competitive win as Liverpool manager sees Liverpool take a 1-0 lead to Anfield against Gomel for their Europa League third-round qualifying second leg. Stewart Downing’s 25-yard effort gave the Reds a welcome cushion for the rematch at Anfield. Dundee United drew 2-2 with Dinamo Moscow while League of Ireland side St Patrick’s Athletic lost to Hannover 3-0 in Dublin.

Bolton’s Fabrice Muamba (24) has revealed he has played football for the first time since his heart attack in the FA Cup game against Tottenham last March. The former Birmingham City player had a kick-about on holiday with the staff from the hotel he was staying in.

Manchester United have been  boosted by  the news that Nemanja Vidic will travel with the squad on a tour of Scandinavia before the Premier League kicks off in three weeks time. Meanwhile, Vidic’s partner in defence Rio Ferdinand is to deny FA charges of improper conduct  on Twitter following John Terry’s trial.

Racing

The 21-runner Betfred Handicap (3.10) will take some solving on day four of Glorious Goodwood. Tom Lee’s been in top form with some big-priced winners so far and his selections will be online at about 11am.  Paddy Power will refund your losing stake if your horse finishes 2nd to the winner. (T&C’s apply)

Meanwhile the Galway Festival enters holiday mode with tonight’s evening card kicks-off the Bank Holiday weekend in Ireland. But Paddy Power columnist Ruby Walsh won’t be there as he faces a spell on the sidelines after breaking a bone in his ankle when Drive Time took a tumble in yesterday’s Galway Hurdle.

Don’t forget to check the Paddy Power Blog fo Goodwood tips from Tom Lee.

Golf

Tiger Woods putting stroke deserted him on the back nine of the WGC Invitational at Firestone yesterday as he slipped back to level par after being three-under through 11. Woods looking for his eighth WGC title win is seven shots behind overnight leader Jim Furyk (-7) who is two clear of England’s Lee Slattery (-5).
