Betting News: Modric, Barton and Rodgers

by Rob Dore | August 17, 2012

Morning update from the Paddy Power Blog on all the latest betting moves in sport

Football

With the kick off of the Premier League just over a day away the transfer activity has gone in to overdrive.

Robin van Persie’s move to Manchester United is ending one of the more tedious summer transfer sagas and now another is set to be sorted out. Luka Modric is soon to be a Real Madrid player as the Spanish side are reported to have made an agreeable offer for the midfielder. Somewhere in the £30 million range. Even Tottenham fans must be glad to have this one over and done with. Spurs are 7/4 in the betting to finish in the top 4 this season. Is it still possible without their midfield maestro?

Joey Barton could be going to France on a season long loan as Marseille are interested in taking the troublesome midfielder.

Brendan Rodgers has made his third signing at Anfield. Morocco international Oussama Assaidi is due to undergo a medical today before completing his £3 million move from Dutch side Heerenveen. Rodgers is building a side capable of playing quick passing, attacking football and Assaidi fits his style perfectly. Barcelona’s Tello and Real Madrid’s Nuri Sahin are also on the Northern Irishman’s list but as of yet theire is no solid news on those potential loan deals. Liverpool could prove a great bet to finish in the top four for the first time in four seasons at 21/10 if Rodgers makes an immediate and positive impact on the Reds.

In other transfer news, Norwich have signed former Manchester City player Javier Garrido on a season long loan from Italian side Lazio. Louis Saha will be mainly laid on the Sunderland treatment table this season. The talented but injury prone 34-year old Frenchman has joined Martin O’Neill’s side on a one-year deal.
