PADCAST: Shame old story for Liverpool says McAteer

DEFENCELESS: Mistakes cost Liverpool against Manchester City (pic: Inpho)

Listen here |

We couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net against West Brom and then we get a better performance against Man City. But it’s the same story as last season where we struggle against the lesser teams. Teams like West Brom, Wigan, QPR this is where we came unstuck last year and it looks the same again.

Former Liverpool footballer Jason McAteer isn’t one to jump aboard the Liverpool hype machine which has exploded into life since that 2-2 draw with Manchester City and he’s not afraid to tell the Paddy Power Padcast why.

The ex-Reds midfielder explains why he thinks Liverpool are struggling against the so-called ‘weaker sides’ in the division yet they raise their game against the big dogs. It’s not all doom and gloom on the Padcast for Liverpool fans though as Macca tells us his love for the youngsters coming through, and in particular Joe Allen and Raheem Sterling.

They’re there on merit. They’re certainly players who can play the Brendan Rodgers system. The positive thing is these are the players for the future and they’re getting the experience in big games. They came through with flying colours.

Also on the Padcast this week we take a look over some of the mouth-watering clashes of the weekend and pick out some of our best bets including a 14/1 treble that we’ve all got our eyes on!
