Ashley Cole might spectacularly walk out of Chelsea for free after negotiations over a new contract appear to have broken down because of his age.
Reports in the media suggest that Roman Abramovich only offers players aged over 30 one-year contract extensions and that hasn’t gown down well with the England left-back.
Cole, who will be 32 at the end of the year, looks set to be in a contract battle despite previously expressing his desire to finish his career at Stamford Bridge. After famously almost crashing his car because Arsenal only offered him £55,000-a-week in 2006 it would be no surprise if Cashley was tempted by the big money on offer at Zenit St Petersburg or PSG.
With Cole in the last year of his contract he could walk out of Roberto Di Matteo’s side for free in January and that will prick the ears of plenty of clubs around Europe. It is no secret that Jose Mourinho is one of Cole’s biggest fans and unless Chelsea can thrash out a contract with him could he be playing at the Bernabeu next year?
Chelsea have got off to a flying start in the Premier League and with Eden Hazard pulling the strings have maintained there 100 percent record on the pitch. The Blues are now 7/2 to lift the trophy in the betting behind 6/4 favourites Manchester City and Manchester United who are 2/1.
