LAST LAUGH: Shelvey rants at Fergie who has a chuckle afterwards

Referee Mark Halsey’s decision to send off Liverpool midfielder Jonjo Shelvey was the most controversial decision from the Premier League weekend.

Shelvey apologised for his game-changing red card in Liverpool’s 2-1 home defeat to Manchester United, but believed Alex Ferguson played a part in his dismissal.

The 20-year-old was given his marching orders for a challenge on Jonny Evans in the first half — with the win-odds level at that point for each team.

“I apologise to the fans for getting sent off but no way was I pulling out of that tackle in a game of that importance,” Shelvey tweeted.

“I’m sorry. I have also apologised to Sir Alex Ferguson. Where I come from people don’t grass people up to get someone sent off.”

Shelvey ranted at Ferguson as he left the pitch, saying to the Manchester United manager: “That’s your fault.”

Watch the video below to see Shelvey’s reaction. It was a rash challenge by Shelvey but Liverpool fans were aggrieved that Evans went unpunished (see below picture). The debate was raging on Facebook all afternoon.

Meanwhile, it was a good day for Paddy Power punters. Customers had lumped on in huge numbers for Steven Gerrard to score first at 10/1.

The victory saw United close to 13/8 to lift the Premier League 2012/2013 title with Liverpool still 6/1 to finish in the top four in online betting with Paddy Power.
