West Ham took the lead in the London derby with Arsenal with a goal worthy of any game. The Gunners had an impressive record against the Hammers – unbeaten in nine (now 10) games – so when the Senegalese player Mohamed Diame fired in this cracker in the 21st minute it came as a big surprise – not least to Arsenal keeper Vito Mannone.
Combining strength, speed and no little skill, Diame zipped past Aaron Ramsey and curled a lovely finish past Mannone from an almost impossibly tight angle.
Sam Allardyce’s side didn’t feel the love for much longer as Olivier Giroud’s equaliser – his first Premier League goal in 303 minutes – Theo Walcott and Santi Cazorla put an end to West Ham’s unbeaten home record in the Premier League this season. It also moved Arsene Wenger’s side to fifth in the table.
