#IfWeKnewThen

In another thrilling weekend of Premier League action there was an average of more than three goals a game and with a number of the in-form teams making comebacks, there was plenty of money to be made for Paddy Power punters.

Both Arsenal and Chelsea recovered from going behind to record convincing victories and Everton and Southampton snatched last-minute draws in a dramatic weekend of action

275/1

Jonny Evans to score first and Manchester United to beat Newcastle 3-0
Scorecast bet

With just the one goal in 131 appearances for Manchester United before Sunday it would take a brave punter to back Jonny Evans to open the scoring. Surprisingly, plenty of punters backed the Northern Irish defender to find the back of the net first at a whopping 40/1.

Even more impressively was one punter who placed a scorecast bet of Johnny Evans to score first and United to win 3-0 at a weekend defining 275/1. It was a cracking bet considering many people in the week had questioned United’s defence and Sir Alex Ferguson’s team had only kept one clean sheet in the league this season.

This game provided plenty of profit for several other punters who correctly the reds to be 2-0 up at half-time and win 3-0 using the half-time/full-time correct score bet.

You can relive Jonny Evans’ thumping header which opened the scoring against Newcastle with this lovely animated GIF.

225/1

Grant Holt to score first and Chelsea to beat Norwich 4-1
Scorecast bet

It probably wasn’t what the majority of Stamford Bridge wanted to see little over 10 minutes into Saturday’s match, but Grant Holt’s opener for Norwich was cheered by quite a lot Paddy Power punters.

Not least by the few who had placed a scorecast bet of Grant Holt to score first and Chelsea to win 4-1 at a staggering 225/1.

It was widely expected that Chelsea would steamroll Norwich and it took a clever bit of betting to side with the canaries taking the lead. But Holt scored 15 goals in the top flight last year and has proven he knows how to find the net against the big boys.

The early goals in the game brought much delight to the handful of punters who had cleverly backed Chelsea to be leading 3-1 at half-time at 30/1. Great betting.

100/1

West Brom HT 2-1, West Brom FT 3-2
Half-time/Full-time correct score bet

One lucky punter will have been dancing in the streets on Saturday afternoon after his incredible 100/1 half-time/full-time correct score bet on West Brom came in.

Luckily he placed the bet online because at 2-1 with five minutes to go he might have ripped up his betting slip and called it a day. But late goals from Youssouf Molumbu and Esteban Granero secured a 3-2 win for the Baggies and no doubt sent the lucky punter bananas with excitement.

The goal might not be enough to save Mark Hughes’ job but it certainly put a healthy wad of cash in that Paddy Power punter’s pocket.

Interestingly a lot of people had backed 3-2 as the correct score and they helped themselves to a cheeky 20/1 before kick-off which made this thunderbolt from Granero into the corner more than just a consolation.

75/1

Aleksandar Kolarov to score first and Man City to beat Sunderland 3-0
Scorecast bet

It’s always nice to have a winning bet on the weekends early kick-off. There’s no better way to go into the 3.00pm games already up on the bookies and that’s how a lucky number of punters felt after Manchester City beat Sunderland 3-0.

In hindsight it wasn’t an outrageous bet. City haven’t been in scintillating form but you always feel they have goals in them and Sunderland, bar Steven Fletcher, have far from set the world alight this season.

Aleksander Kolarov had already got a goal in the league cup and in Europe this season so it wasn’t too much of a surprise to see him bag the opening goal against Martin O’Neill’s side. At 16/1 he was a tasty price and five minutes into the weekend’s fixtures punters were ahead.

It got even better for those who had backed the 75/1 scorecast of Kolarov to score first and City to win 3-0. The introduction of Sergio Aguero sealed the game for Mancini’s men and James Milner’s 89th minute goal was probably celebrated like a last-gasp winner.

Let’s have a look at what you could have won…

In classic Jim Bowen style here’s a couple of bets that nobody picked out at speed-boat-sized prices.

400/1
Scorecast bet – Mohamed Diame to score first and Arsenal to beat West ham 3-1

175/1
Half-time/full-time correct score bet – Reading to be beating Swansea 2-0 at half-time, the match to end 2-2 at full-time
