West Brom v Southampton, Live on Sky Sports 1,
West Brom were very unlucky against Man City and probably deserved something from that game. They lost the game at St James’ in really unfortunate fashion and those were games they could have taken a point from each. Their form is good and what Steve Clarke’s done is very good making them a great bet at 8/11.
Shane Long will run all day and test centre-backs. He’ll take them in to the channels, he’ll come short and get the ball and he is a pest for defenders. Romelu Lukaku is completely different. He is a beast of a man and is full of physicality. He might not be a complete finisher yet but the young man creates goalscoring chances. He could have had a hatrick at St James’ last week. Then there’s Peter Odemwingie. One minute he can be a complete match winner and other days he might a s well not be there. That’s the problem with Odemwingie but on his day he can win a game for you. The rest of the team work really well and they’re in a good place.
Steve Clarke has done very well. He’s been sensible by not touching his back four and goalkeeper because under Roy Hodgson they were solid. We know how good Hodgson is at organising a back four and Clarke has left them to it. He’s been able to concentrate on his midfield and attack and it shows in the way they play.
Nigel Adkins and Southampton have it all on to get a result here. I thought QPR were unlucky when they went here a few weeks ago, they didn’t get the rub of the green and a few results didn’t go their way. But they showed if West Brom aren’t at it you can get at them.
After the two defeats though Clarke will be demanding a victory at the weekend and should get it. Southampton leak goals but do look like they can score so 3-1 might be worth a punt at 11/1 . Some good West Brom football should open Saints up.
