David Pipe gives the Paddy Power blog team the lowdown on his runners at the Open Meeting at Cheltenham this weekend.
It’s a big weekend coming up and Dynaste (1.15) is in the opener on Friday. He finished eighth in the World Hurdle behind Big Bucks but he’s only six and still open to improvement. We always thought he’d make a top-class chaser and has a similar profile to Grands Crus. We entered him in in a couple of novice chases over the weekend and he has a live chance this afternoon.
Decoy won the conditional jockeys’ handicap hurdle for us last season last season and we’ve Topwood and Waterunder (3.35) entered up this time.
Topwood has only run twice in this country since he came from France and won nicely at Chepstow in April while Waterunder is a different horse this year.
A former Irish point-to-pointer, he won a decent novice hurdle at Wincanton beating Johnjo O’Neill’s It’s A Gimme last season. That one finished second at Ascot in a big handicap hurdle and is among the favourites for Sunday’s Racing Post Hurdle at this meeting.
Swing Bill (4.05) won the amateur’s rider race last year and runs off the same mark again this Friday. He’s not getting any younger but should give one of the lads in the yard a good spin.
