Andy Gray: Chelsea, Manchester United and Celtic will struggle

by Josh Powell | November 20, 2012

Andy Gray blog bylineExpert football pundit and analyst Andy Gray has joined Paddy Power to give his insight on the best of Wednesday’s Champions League betting.

Andy Gray’s Tuesday night double:
Chelsea and Juventus and Bayern Munich and Valencia to draw: 11/1

Juventus v Chelsea, Live on ITV 1,
Tuesday, 7.45pm

This is a huge game for Chelsea because the group is wide open. Shakhtar Donetsk have surprised everybody and Chelsea have found the group very difficult. They have gone about the games a little to open, they’ve been attractive going forward but have been very easy to get at. You could see that when Juventus scored two at Stamford Bridge and Shakhtar beating them in Donetsk. Roberto Di Matteo has a problem or two and has some big decisions to make with his team selection.

When Eden Hazard, Juan Mata, Oscar and Fernando Torres all play they are very effective going forward. The problem Chelsea have is none of the four are very good defensively so when they lose the ball they are vulnerable to good teams attacking them and that is what has happened so far.

Juventus don’t have many goals in their team but they have a squad that is very hard to beat. They have three centre-backs with flying wing-backs and they let Andrea Pirlo conduct the midfield. Chelsea will know what’s coming and it will be difficult but they’ll be delighted with a point.

A draw is the best bet at 5/2 and 1-1 could be worth a bet at 13/2 because both teams are capable of scoring. Sebastien Giovinco is a quality player and can get the first goal at 13/2.

Galatasaray v Manchester United, Live on Sky Sports 4,
Tuesday, 7.45pm

Sir Alex Ferguson can use this opportunity to give a lot of his younger players and the fringe players some match time. It will be a hostile environment and Galatasaray will be up for this. They were unlucky to lose at Old Trafford and with Manchester United fielding a weakened side Galatasaray will fancy their chances.

Galatasaray can win this at 19/20 but it’s not easy to beat United in Europe. It will be very tough but the home side can edge it 1-0 at 17/2.

Benfica v Celtic, Live on Sky Sports 2,
Tuesday, 7.45pm

This is almost a spiritual home for Celtic where they won the European Cup in 1967 and the atmosphere is building. It’s a tough one to call because Benfica are a decent side and although Celtic beat Barcelona you can’t get carried away with that. It will be a very tough game and tonight will be difficult for Celtic.

They didn’t get beat in either of their qualifying group matches before the group stage and Celtic’s away form is improving but they have to be good tonight. Benfica have plenty of players that can hurt you such as Oscar Cardoza, Rodrigo and Lima. Benfica can win this tonight at odds of 1/2.

It will be a close game but 2-1 to Benfica might be worth a punt at 7/1.
