Good ol’ Premier League. As if Manchester United against Liverpool needed any more spice, they’ve elected Howard Webb to officiate this Sunday.
And Paddy Power has priced up a number of online betting specials available for the big match, starring Mr Webb (see link at end of story).
For example, Liverpool are 8/11 to get the most yellow cards with United at 7/4 and a tie at 9/2. Manchester United are 8/1 to score in ‘Fergietime’ and Luis Suarez is 6/1 to be booked for diving.
It is the first time the ref will take charge of a game involving the pair since their controversial FA Cup meeting in January 2011, reports The Independent newspaper.
Back then, United got a penalty after Dimitar Berbatov was deemed to have been fouled by Daniel Agger while Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard was sent off for a tackle on Michael Carrick. The match ended 1-0.
After the game, then Liverpool forward Ryan Babel, using all his literary skills, tweeted: “And they call him one of the best referees? That’s a joke. SMH [shaking my head].”
He’s big, he’s red, he sleeps in Fergie’s bed
Babel retweeted a Photoshopped picture of Webb wearing a Manchester United shirt, and was fined £10,000 by the FA.
Webb is one of the most respected officials in the Premier League but has been slagged in chants such as: “He’s big, he’s red, he sleeps in Fergie’s bed.” Hardly. Mrs Fergie would never allow it.
