Barca on red alert for Reina

Liverpool enjoyed a Saturday afternoon cakewalk thanks to a 5-0 thumping of Norwich, but this morning’s transfer gossip will be a bit of cloud on the horizon. Barcelona are reportedly looking for a goalkeeper to replace Victor Valdes after the Spanish goalkeeper announced that he wouldn’t be signing a new contract with the club. Valdes is contracted until the end of the 2013/14 season, but the Catalan club could move during the summer for the Liverpool keeper. Mail On Sunday

Sadly for Liverpool, the rumour does seem to make some sense. Valdes regularly stands out as the most ‘un-world class’ players in the Barca first XI with a relatively high number of clangers for a goalkeeper who doesn’t get called into action all that often. His nifty skills with the ball at his feet often gets mentioned as his strongest asset, which isn’t a ringing endorsement of his goalkeeping ability. Reina was a youth team player at Barcelona and Liverpool’s long-term interest in Jack Butland would seem to indicate the club are looking for someone to eventually slip into the Spaniard’s gloves.

Frankly, it’s a tough descision

Frank Lampard is once again heavily linked to the LA Galaxy in today’s newspapers, but a spanner in the works may come in the form of the England place that he may or may not have. Reports suggest that a move to MLS would make it impossible for Roy Hodgson to keep including him in his team which may tempt Lampard into acting upon supposed interest from AC Milan, who probably couldn’t afford his wages. In other Chelsea contract saga news, Ashley Cole will be offered a new deal at Stamford Bridge. In figures that sound a lot like made up speculation, Cole will get £10 million for signing the one year extension. Telegraph

The other stuff

– According to some reports in this morning’s papers, Carlos Tevez has basically thanked Manchester City for all their patience and support in the last couple of seasons by waving a middle finger in the club’s direction. He has turned down the offer of a new whopping contract to let is contract wind down so he can join Boca Juniors on a free in 18 months time. Sunday Mirror

– PSG will offer Arsene Wenger a truck load of money to become their manager for some reason despite the fact their spending policy would seem to be the very antithesis of his football philosophy. It’s ok Arsenal fans, Carlo Ancelotti is willing to move the Emirates neatly and probably implausibly wrapping up this unlikely story. Sunday Mirror

– Pep Guardiola isn’t starting the Bayern Munich job for another few months, but already he has decided he wants to take Luis Suarez and Falcao to Bavaria. Sunday Mirror
