THE REINA ON SPAIN: Pepe’s dad thinks his son is perfect for Barca

Reina’s old man wants the Liverpool keeper to return to Barca

Plenty of people have embarrassing parents who get involved in their lives far too often and it’s nice to know that Pepe Reina is one of them. The Liverpool shot-stopper has three years left on his contract but with Victor Valdes rumoured to be on his way out of the Nou Camp, Barca need a replacement. Brendan Rodgers has made it clear he doesn’t want to offload the 30-year-old but his old man couldn’t have been much clearer in an interview on Spanish radio.

‘I would be delighted to see Pepe back at Barca, of course I would. What father would not like to see his son at Barca? He has already been there but to return would be extraordinary’.

‘Pepe has shown sufficient proof of the calibre of goalkeeper he is and right now – and sorry for the lack of modesty – he would be up to the task and the ideal keeper for FC Barcelona.’

Dave’s done: Flailing De Gea on the way out of United

Another David De Gea error led to Tottenham snatching a point against Manchester United, cutting their lead at the top of the table to just five points, and Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly seen enough. The 22-year-old has been at United for 18 months but a combination of flapping at crosses, weighing about 11 stone when wet and wearing jerseys that are three sizes to big for him has left fans and pundits alike wondering if he is really cut out for the top-flight. Who could be the man to replace DDG between the sticks? Anders Lindegaard proved he is as reliable as public transport in the snow so Fergie is going to have to dip into his wallet. Real Madrid’s Iker Casillas, Stoke’s Asmir Begovic and Galatasaray’s Fernando Muslera are all tipped to be the man lined up to join the Red Devils. The Telegraph.

Redknapp fancies a third date with Niko Kranjcar at QPR

Harry Redknapp is keen to dip back into the transfer market at QPR and bring Dynamo Kiev’s Niko Kranjcar to Loftus Road. Kranjcar played for Redknapp at Portsmouth and Tottenham and no doubt his agent will be delighted to have the chance to work with ‘Arry again. The Daily Mail.

Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is ‘an ass’ if he joins Newcastle.

That is the view of Montpellier president Louis Nicollin as the 23-year-old defender looks set to join the Toon Army. The Montpellier defender is due to complete his medical on Tyneside in a £6.7 million move and that hasn’t gone down well with his former club.

‘If he’s an ass, it’s not my fault, but I think his manager has a lot to do with it’, said the Montpellier president Louis Nicollin. ‘Newcastle really isn’t a good choice. He’ll get himself moved on next year, but it doesn’t bother me’.

Alan Pardew is keen to get some defensive cover in after the Newcastle captain Fabricio Coloccini reportedly asked to leave the club for ‘personal reasons’. Those personal reasons probably being something related to the magpies recent run of two wins from 14 in the league. The Mirror.
