Pardew’s Foreign Legion
The Premier League’s latest Francophiles Newcastle United will unveil Bordeaux forward Yoan Gouffran later today and are close to signing Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa for £6.7m from French champions Montpellier.
Defender Massadio Haïdara is also on the brink of joining the Magpies’ French Foreign Legion from Nancy as the club’s cross-channel shopping spree goes into overdrive.
One player moving in the opposite direction though is club captain Fabricio Coloccini (31). The Argentine’s apparent imminent departure from the ‘wee club in the North East’ for ‘personal reasons’ had been on the cards for the last while. The player’s wife has already left for Argentina and he is expected to join her shortly.
Money to Burn?
QPR are anchored to the bottom of the Premier League and after signing a couple of strikers Arry’s copped that he might need to stop the ball going in at the other end to avoid the drop. Blackburn defenders Martin Olsson (24) and Scott Dann (25) are on his radar. At least the two boys should adapt to a new manager easily if they do go. They’ve already had three bosses at Blackburn Rovers this season after Michael Appleton replaced Henning Berg who took over from the hapless Steve Kean a couple of months before.
Odemwingie stays put
West Brom’s new-found confidence on the pitch is being matched by a bit of steel in the boardroom as striker Peter Odemwingie won’t be sold this month according to Richard Garlick.
The unfortunately-named new sporting and technical director said:
We don’t have to sell any of our players. It’s only on our terms.
