Real Madrid v Manchester United, Live on Sky Sports 2,
Six weeks ago Manchester United were conceding too many goals and they were too easy to play against. But they have got far better. They’ve only conceded four goals in their last seven games. They’re going have to play well, there’s no doubt about that, because Real Madrid are much more than Cristiano Ronaldo. Yes, he is a huge factor and yes, if you can stop him it makes life much easier. But they also have the likes of Xabi Alonso, Karim Benzema, Mesut Ozil and Angel Di Maria, all good players and match winners in their own right.
United can cause Madrid problems though because Madrid are susceptible to the counter-attack. With the players United have, they contain the pace to exploit this. Madrid are also poor from crosses, set plays, and free kicks so United can go into the game positively. They are 4/1 to win the game and the draw is 3/1.
There is good value in the goalscorer market. Cristiano Ronaldo is 7/2 and is normally shorter than that. He is a good price if you fancy him to score against his old team. Karim Benzema is one to watch at a good price of 9/2. He will definitely play and is one who is a real goalscoring threat.
Shakhtar Donetsk v Borussia Dortmund, Live on Sky Sports 4,
Borussia Dortmund will be everyone’s favourites to go through but Shakhtar Donetsk will be no pushovers. Dortmund’s form has been OK, not as good as Bayern Munich’s, but it’s quite good. Dortmund are focussing on finishing second and having a good run in this tournament. They really do fancy their chances here.
The way they play their football they are a threat both home and away. Shakhtar will know that the counter-attacking football that Dortmund play away from home can be really dangerous. This is a hard one to call and even if Shakhtar are the under-dogs they can still win.
All will depend on this leg. It will be cold and intimidating in Donetsk but Dortmund should be able to cope with it. This one could be a draw at 23/10.
When you pick a first goalscorer you have to look at the home side and look at what they’ve got. You can assume that in a close game the home side will get the first chance and Eduardo is a good price to score first at 6/1.
