Chelsea entertain – and we use that term loosely – Brentford in their fourth-round FA Cup replay at noon today. They’ve won it four times in the last six years and Rafa Benitez would love to get his hands on a fifth trophy on the off-chance he keeps his job until May.
The Blues tend to keep their best performances away from home – where the supporters aren’t as hostile – and Rafa has called on his players to do a ‘professional’ job. But there’s always a balancing act between rotating your squad and letting £200k-a-week under-performers look better than they are against lower-league opposition.
And the egos on the bench will have to keep their opinions to themselves as the Paddy Power Blog has managed to sneak in a hidden mic.
John Terry starts – but was an unused sub in the 1-0 Europa League win at Sparta Prague last Thursday and Rafa must guard against the Blues’ stalwart and club captain becoming as much of a destabilising influence in the dressing room – as he is on the pitch – as our hidden mic has picked up.
The ball boys will be staying out of Eden Hazard’s firing line if he gets a run. The 22-year-old was snapped watching Japanese animated cartoon Naruto – an adolescent ninja who dreams of becoming the strongest in his village – on the flight to Prague midweek. And it sounds like he’s taken it a bit too seriously.
