It was a total lie as New Zealand didn’t field a team of pubescent teenagers, but one of the schoolboys did take a blinder of a catch in his role as ballboy. Reuben Andrews impressively snaffled an Ian Bell pull shot that had gone for six and became something of a sensation in the process. The 14-year-old was shown repeatedly on the big screen in Hamilton and got a round of applause for his efforts, which were far more appreciated than Mitchell McClenaghan’s comical attempts to get to it.
“It went over the top of his hands so I just dived to the left,” he explained with the modesty of a youngster not yet familiar with the concept of milking his 15 minutes of fame.
