Iron Man: West Ham are favourites to be Paolo Di Canio’s next club

IRON MAN? Will Paolo Di Canio be heading back to Upton Park with West Ham?

YES WE CANIO: Will Paolo Di Canio be heading back to Upton Park to take over West Ham?

By Josh Powell | Paolo Di Canio’s next club

Paolo Di Canio has bid arriverderci to Swindon Town after a roller-coaster journey that lasted almost two years at the County Ground. The lovable Italian joined Swindon in May 2011 and led them to promotion from League Two, picking up the Manager of the Year trophy on the way. His departure comes as Swindon play Tranmere tonight with the chance to go top of League One as they bid for back-to-back promotions.

Despite his passion for the club, not to mind a 57 per cent win rate, Paolo could not stay with legal wranglings, a transfer embargo and a shrinking squad proving too much. Now he is favourite to take the reins at West Ham where he scored 52 goals in 141 appearances between 1998 and 2003.

Di Canio is an Upton Park hero and the fans would love the 11/4 shot to return to the club with Sam Allardyce’s contract due up at the end of the season. Paolo is 11/2 to manage Leeds next and 15/2 to head to Coventry. QPR and Reading are the other Premier League clubs in the mix for his next destination at 20/1.

Let’s hope wherever Paolo Di Canio heads to we get to see plenty more player discipline dished out like this to James Collins.

Amazingly Paolo Di Canio is the 2/1 favourite to be the next manager of Swindon Town, despite the fact he just resigned. Swindon are within touching distance of another promotion and currently sit in the play-off places of League One after an 11-game unbeaten run in the league.

Falkirk manager Steven Pressley was the previous favourite to take over but has drifted from 5/4 to 9/4.

Current assistant manager Fabrizio Piccareta is 9/2 to take the job permanently with Mike Newell at 7/2 in the betting. Former Saints manager Nigel Adkins knows what it takes to get back-to-back promotions and he is an 11/1 shot with ‘Wobbly Eyes’ Dennis Wise 16/1 to take the reins at Swindon.
