World No 1 Rory McIlroy and some of the world’s top golfers have taken to Twitter as a freak snow storm has blown the WGC Accenture Match Play off course in the Arizona desert.
Snow, sleet, and freezing rain combined at Dove Mountain to whitewash the greens and play was suspended around 6pm BST.
McIlroy was getting ready for his opening day match against Shane Lowry at 8.05pm with Tiger Woods due to tee off 20 mins later against Charles Howell.
The two-time Major winner McIlroy tweeted: This weather is officially ridiculous!
McIlroy thought Paddy’s tweets in the Sky at the Ryder Cup in Medinah, Chicago last September was awesome but had seen nothing like this before.
Ryder Cup hereo and leading contender Ian Poulter kept his followers up to date with how the bagmen were occupying their time.
The caddies have officially just had a snow ball fight. Never seen anything like it. instagr.am/p/V9quTPpg-a/

Two years ago Tuscon was hit by similar conditions and play was suspended only for England’s Luke Donald to run out the eventual winner.
