Paddy Power is always looking out for his punters. The shareholders might not like it very much and the traders are often left shaking in a cold sweat but it keeps on happening. Not content with forking out €750,000 to punters after his Ronaldo Money-back Special clicked, Paddy wanted to give a little extra back to distraught United fans.
Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir won’t be getting any discount in the Trafford Centre this year after sending off Nani, and arguably costing United a place in the Champions League quarter-finals. The flash of red came at a pivotal time in Real Madrid’s 2-1 win at Old Trafford and changed the face of the game.
But Paddy is putting a comforting arm around the United faithful this morning with a £5/€5 free bet.
If you had previously set Manchester United as your favourite team on Paddy Power’s customised Team Pages, we’re sending our sympathies and more importantly, a Free Bet that you can use to ease the pain of Tuesday night.
Punt it however you like to try to soften the blow of the Champions League exit. Back Leeds to get beaten by Crystal Palace on Sunday, Spurs to beat Liverpool or maybe stick a few quid on Barnsley to shock Manchester City.
The Red Devils were 1-0 up against Real Madrid when Nani saw red for a high foot in a challenge with Alvaro Arbeloa. From then on the game swung and two goals in three minutes from Luka Modric and Cristiano Ronaldo saw Madrid progress.
Never a red card.

If Nani jumps in like that in a crowded area then its a different story,Arbeloa made up a lot of ground. If that's a red then good night.

It speaks volumes when a former Liverpool player and the current Manchester City captain agree that Nani shouldn’t have been heading for an early bath. Even Jose Mourinho’s ego was softened as he admitted that, ‘The best team lost’. Although don’t expect that humility to last longer than a couple of days.
Paddy is a man who gets gushy at Marley and Me, he’s softer than your Nan and he’s got a good history of helping out fans when their team is in trouble. Manchester City fans got a free bet last month when Paddy paid out on United to win the title and Liverpool, Tottenham and Chelsea all cashed in on Paddy’s generosity after a difficult FA Cup weekend.
If you haven’t set your team page yet you probably should. If your lads make a bollocks of something on the pitch you wouldn’t want the double-whammy of missing out on a free bet as well. Plus there’s a truckload of key stats such as form and head-to-head data in there as well.
You can set your team pages using this left hand navigation tool on the football pages. Woohoo.
