Two Hennessy Gold Cups, a Cheltenham Gold Cup and a Lexus Chase. The Paul Nicholls-trained Denman was a serious horse and to start making comparisons between him and five-year-old hurdler Pont Alexandre is pretty significant.
But that is exactly what champion jockey Ruby Walsh has done.
Pont Alexandre has won all three of his starts over hurdles, winning by a combined distance of almost 30 lengths and Ruby Walsh is sweet on his chances in the Neptune Novices’ Hurdle. He is the 2/1 favourite for Wednesday’s race at the Cheltenham Festival and Ruby believes he is a seriously special horse.
‘He jumps, he stays, and he has a huge future. There’s nothing not to like about Pont Alexandre. He is one of the best novices I’ve ever ridden.’
‘He is a very special horse.’
