John Parrott: This is why Oscar Whisky will not win the World Hurdle

by Josh Powell | March 13, 2013

John Parrott Cheltenham 2013

Barry Geraghty was the 2012 leading Cheltenham Festival jockey. He is a Gold Cup winner and  a Grand National winner. But that doesn’t put off snooker hero and racing punter John Parrott from completely dismissing his thoughts on Oscar Whisky in the World Hurdle.

Oscar Whisky is the 7/2 favourite after winning the Coral Hurdle at Ascot and then only going down by a fraction in testing ground at Cheltenham in January. Geraghty is tipping Oscar Whisky up as his nap of the Cheltenham Festival but Parrott isn’t so convinced.

Will Oscar Whisky stay the trip? What happens if it rains? Is there anything untoward going on between John Virgo and Hazel Irvine? For now we don’t know and it is all opinion but John Parrott is a man with his head in the Cheltenham form books and he isn’t shy about it.

Despite Oscar Whisky being the best horse in the race it is the tactics that could cost Oscar Whisky.

‘If connections of Reve Di Sivola make this a test like they did with Big Bucks last year, Oscar Whisky definitely has to get this trip. Reve Di Sivolais a pretty solid campaigner and should go well.’

You can listen to what JP thinks of the World Hurdle here plus he has a bookie-smashing 14/1 each-way shot.
