Ruby Walsh: Sam Winner is the best bet of the Cheltenham Festival

by Josh Powell | March 13, 2013

Ruby Walsh Cheltenham 2013

Your best mate down the pub fancies Shutthefrontdoor. John from work reckons that Close House is a great each-way price because he heard someone on the radio say so. Even your mum keeps banging on about Close House.

Everyone has an opinion on the wide open Pertemps Final at the Cheltenham Festival and champion jockey and Cheltenham hero Ruby Walsh reckons he’s picked out the bet of the week.

The six-time top Festival jockey is backing the favourite Sam Winner and fancies his mount to be the nap of the Cheltenham Festival.

The Paul Nicholls-trained six-year-old had Peddlers Cross two lengths behind him at Kempton in January and is nicely handicapped at 11-2 for the Pertemps.

‘He had a disappointing last year over fences but he’s a lovely weight. He stays forever and can jump really well. He is quite a bit better than the handicapper.’
