Champion jockey Ruby Walsh knows a thing or two about riding winners at the Cheltenham Festival. He has been the Top Festival Jockey six times in his career and has notched up 34 winners since 1998. He’s not doing too badly this year either.
No surprise then that Paddy Power has got the shareholders sweating ahead of the Gold Cup after Ruby said one of the top four in the betting will win it. The jockey who takes the ride on Silviniaco Conti said he can’t see anything outside the market leaders winning the festival’s biggest race.
Bobs Worth is the favourite after his Hennessy win and Ruby can’t help but agree that the form from that race looks pretty solid. He kept Long Run at bay in the Betfair Chase in November on Silviniaco Conti, but is keen to emphasise that the 2011 Gold Cup winner is the only one of the four that has made the trip before. Ruby knows plenty about the Willie Mullins-trained Sir Des Champs but is hopeful that Conti will give him his third Gold Cup.
