Cheltenham Festival 2013
Having a little winner at the Cheltenham Festival is always a nice feeling. When Solwhit ran clear in the World Hurdle on Thursday I whipped my shirt off, jumped on to Paddy Power’s back and rode him round the office. This bet makes my €5 each-way look pretty tame though, despite my enthusiastic celebration.
One Dublin-based mobile punter got his weekend off to a quite unbelievable start with a €77 each way five-fold accumulator which paid out €330,000.
He nailed Bobs Worth, the winner of the Gold Cup, and benefited from Jane Mangan’s mishap on Oscar Delta which allowed Salsify to romp home. The winning punter also got a helping hand from Paddy Power’s Winning Odds Promise, meaning if the horses starting price was bigger than the price he took, he got the bigger price. That meant Paddy gave him 4/1 on Our Conor and 10/1 on Ted Veale.
In hindsight it looks like an obvious bet. But in hindsight Fernando Torres wasn’t worth £50 million, last night’s kebab wasn’t a good idea and leaving John Terry in the company of your missus was always going to end in tears.
Here are the five winning selections and the prices. Well done good sir.
