Paddy Power was left emptying his pockets again after the 2013 Aintree Grand National. The boss threw caution to the wind after a few too many shandys one day and decided paying out five places on the Grand National was a great idea. Much in the same vein as Atomic Kitten thought reforming was a good idea. It wasn’t.
On February 12 Paddy decided he was going to pay 1/4 the odds on the first five home and it’s fair to say he’s regretting that decision as much as Michelle Keegan is regretting that photo on Instagram. Punters cashed in as the well supported Rare Bob ran home in fifth and rewarded each-way backers who had punted with Paddy Power.
Auroras Encore won the 2013 Grand National for trainer Sue Smith and jockey Ryan Mania. Here’s how the top five finished and their respective prices. If you want a full run-down of who finished where and want to find out where your fella ended up just click here.
How they finished
1st Auroras Encore 66/1
2nd Cappa Bleu 12/1
3rd Teaforthree 10/1
4th Oscar Time 66/1
5th Rare Bob 16/1
Rare Bob received plenty of support being backed in from 22/1 to 16/1 this morning and punters who went each-way were handsomely rewarded by Paddy Power. If, like Clare Balding, you had Rare Bob on your shortlist then congratulations. You’ll be having a pint on Paddy tonight as he paid out on the first five places.
Here goes then: 1. Rare Bob, 2. Teatforthree, 3. Seabass, 4. Chicago Grey. #GrandNational
