People that claim the Premier League is the ‘best league in the world’ obviously haven’t spent a wet Monday night sat in Loftus Road watching QPR play out a drab 0-0 draw with Reading, where the biggest talking point is the range of pies on offer at half-time.

Manchester United had the title sewn up back in February and if it hadn’t been for Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement there really wouldn’t be much to talk about at the top of the table. City’s challenge has been pretty limp and the other teams are happy to scrap it out for fourth like three tramps fighting over half a pizza in a bin.

The Portugese League is completely different however and is going right down to the wire. Both Benfica and Porto are unbeaten after 28 games and just two points separate them with two games remaining. Tonight they go head-to-head in the title-decider.

  • Benfica have won 23 games, drawing five, scoring 73 goals and conceding just 17. They are top on 74 points
  • Porto have won 22 games, drawing six, scoring 66 goals and conceding just 13. They are second, two points behind, on 72

To try to emphasise this incredible feat here are both teams’ league games this season. Green is a win, that dirty orange colour is a draw and red is a loss. Mind. Blown.

Porto

Porto 1213 season

Benfica

Benfica 1213 season

Home advantage gives Porto the edge in the betting with the hosts evens to get the win they need to go top with a game remaining. Benfica are 12/5 and the draw is 11/4. The Eagles just need to avoid defeat tonight and a win in their last game secures the title. With that in mind they are 8/11 to win or draw this evening.

It will take some effort from Benfica though who have only won once in their last ten visits to Porto.

The game isn’t being shown on ESPN or Sky Sports this evening but it is being streamed live and uninterrupted on PPtv. Paddy promises that you won’t have to deal with Lee Dixon’s punditry, we won’t cut to ad breaks at really important moments in the match and it gives you the perfect excuse to avoid Britain’s Got Talent.
