Paddy Power cushions Watford fans’ Wembley pain
Watford finished the season third in the Championship, just two points off the automatic promotion spots. Plenty of punters had them down as favourites to progress from the play-offs. Unfortunately it wasn’t to be as Crystal Palace’s Kevin Philips snuck out of the retirement home and swapped his slippers for his boots to slot home the penalty that keeps Watford in the Championship for another year.
Gianfranco Zola’s men weren’t at the races at Wembley on Bank Holiday Monday. Not even the presence of super-fan Elton John could help them over the line.
It’s not all bad for Watford though. Paddy Power is putting a virtual arm round the shoulder of Hornets fans by giving them all a £5/€5 free bet.
Every punter who has set Watford up as their side on Paddy Power’s Team Pages should have the free bet in their account to spend on football before midnight on Sunday, June 2. There are a whole host of final day La Liga fixtures to get stuck into and two England internationals so plenty of footie for punters to get stuck into.
It might be another year of playing at the Riverside Stadium and Ewood Park instead of Anfield and Old Trafford, but at least you won’t be getting absolutely battered every week, like Palace.
A free bet from Paddy might not completely heal the Wembley scars, but it could at least get the beers in this weekend.
