The belly-putter has rocked the world of professional golf. To be fair it’s probably a world that deserves rocking after seeing the state of Ian Poulter’s wardrobe and having to listen to Sergio Garcia’s spat with Tiger Woods.
Padraig Harrington is the latest golfer to benefit from switching to the belly-putter, and the Irishman had 14 single-putt greens on during Saturday’s round in the St Jude Classic.
His birdie on the 17th travelled 43-foot before disappearing from sight in one of the tournament’s highlights.
Harrington scored a 65 on Saturday and finished the tournament tied for 10th on five-under-par heading in to the US Open at Pennsylvania. He tied for fourth in this event last year and has four other top 10 finishes in this event since 2000.
He’s 80/1 and if he keeps knocking in these kind of putts there’ll be a fair few punters celebrating on Sunday night.
