After finishing last in the Epsom Derby, Dawn Approach was not expected to run in the St James’s Palace Stakes at Royal Ascot this Tuesday.
However, trainer Jim Bolger has confirmed that his Newmarket 2,000 Guineas winner will take his chance in the Group 1 showpiece – subject to a satisfactory gallop on Thursday.
Dawn Approach was immediately installed 6/4 favourite by Paddy Power with Aidan O’Brien’s Magician now a 13/8 shot and Richard Hannon’s Toronado at 5/1.
Unfair! Unfair!’ we hear you cry. And we agree. Which is why we’ve come up with what we believe is the fairest solution.
If you placed a bet on any other horse to win the St James’s Palace Stakes before 12pm today, Wednesday June 12th, and your horse finishes second to Dawn Approach, Paddy Power will pay you out as a winner.
You can’t say fairer than that.
Dawn Approach almost pulled Kevin Manning’s arms off in the colts’ Classic earlier this month but gets a shot at redemption on the first day of the five-day meeting on Tuesday.
Last year’s highest-rated two-year-old is set for a mouth-watering clash with Aidan O’Brien’s Magician who was withdrawn at the 11thhour from the Derby after an impressive win in the Irish 2,000 Guineas a week earlier.
It’s set to be one of the races of the season so far and you’ll be paid out as a winner if your ante-post selection (before midday, June 12) finishes second to Dawn Approach next Tuesday.
