If you have ever seen a toothless ice-hockey player and put their missing molars down to excessive sugar intake or poor hygiene habits, this animated GIF may clear things up.
The two most common causes of lost teeth in the NHL are pucks to the face and fists to the face. This is the latter.
During the first period of last night’s game between the Boston Bruins and the Chicago Blackhawks in Boston, Andrew Shaw of Chicago stuck out a stick to block a shot. He blocked the shot but also deflected the puck towards his own face, knocking him out and leaving him prone on the ice for several minutes.
Being a hockey player he sucked it up, regained consciousness and skated his concussed ass off the ice. He then returned in the second period to help the Blackhawks win the game, secure the series 4-2 and lift the Stanley Cup. Lifting the cup whilst repeating “F**king ay!” over and over again like someone who had just taking a puck to the face. Proving he was completely back to normal.
