Championship previews | Huddersfield Town
Real Championship football fans give the Paddy Power Blog their honest previews for the new season. Huddersfield Town fan Keelan (@KeelanTown) tells us how Huddersfield need a new defender to plug the gaps after surviving last season.
State of play: It was squeaky bum time on the last game of the season as relegation could have dawned upon seven different sides. Both Huddersfield and our opponents on the day Barnsley had to get results (although we only needed a draw) to ensure survival. After news of Crystal Palace taking the lead against Peterborough, Alex Smithies kept the ball in his own box and he wasn’t pursued by the Barnsley team as a 2-2 draw meant both sides would be playing Championship football next season.
The gaffer: Mark Robins isn’t a man to show a lot of emotion but he talks complete sense. The fans had faith in him after his appointment and he delivered in the end. He’s building a team over the summer securing some good signings like Martin Paterson and Jonathon Hogg, hopefully this will help push for a higher finish this time around.
Terrace hero: The one and only James Vaughan, so very underrated from an outsiders perspective but gives nothing but 100% every time he puts the shirt on and is technically top class!
Big-time Charlie: Don’t really have one, a few big players have underperformed but nobody is too big for their boots here!
Which Championship side have the best away fans? Pains me to say it being a Yorkshire man and it wont make me like them but probably Sheffield Wednesday, had an average season but pack everywhere out and make plenty of noise.
Who is your dream signing? Personal message to Robins; Please sign us a centre-half! We need a defender or we won’t cope all season. We simply haven’t got enough strength at the back.
