Championship previews | Queens Park Rangers
Real Championship football fans give the Paddy Power Blog their honest previews for the new season. QPR fan Paul Finney (@paulfinney1969), who writes for Indy R’s, has just about recovered form last year and is delighted to see the back of some players.
State of Play Last season was the season from hell. The 5-0 opening game defeat was seen as a blip but it turned out it was just a taster of what was to come. The only highlight was beating Chelsea away, and we were left with one of the most expensive team of flops we have ever seen in our life time or will again.
Summer came, some of the wasters have gone (no postcards please Mr Bosingwa) and so it is upwards – let’s face it when you spend a season at the bottom of the league that is the only way you can go.
Based on the fact the club have created our best kit for years and our new goalkeeper shirt even has hoops as well, a positive change must be on the horizon.
How’s the gaffer? He is terrific in his own words. Harry Redknapp has had his summer rest and now he’s ready for the season ahead, well that’s the hope anyway. Harry says he will take us straight back up or he will have failed, so this week he sat down with the board to plan our phoenix-like return to the Premier League – or in other words our pre-season Plan B. Our Plan A went to Norwich.
Terrace hero Well after last season anyone who can kick a ball in the direction of a team-mate or can score a goal from two yards will be held shoulder-high and marched through the streets of W12. Nedum Onuoha is the man who could stand up and show the way becoming the cult hero this year.
Big-time Charlie: That man has now gone to plague Turkey somewhere. Stand up Mr Jose Bosingwa: The worst example of a footballer the people of W12 have ever seen.
Worst away ground in the Championship and why? Ipswich Town. Over-priced and it feels like you’re watching the game through a keyhole
Which Championship side have the best away fans? Have to give that to Blackpool. They always turn up with a drummer and are in good voice.
Who is your dream Championship signing? As it stands Charlie Austin. Stand up and take the shirt Charlie, come the hour come the man, the new hero in hoops!
What is your best terrace chant? Well that is easy, one highlight from Stamford Bridge last season…
‘How s*** must you be, we’re winning away’
