Mick Kinane exclusive: Dawn has the right Approach at Goodwood

by Sean Goff | July 31, 2013
A NEW DAWN: Can Jim Bolger's horse get back to winning ways in the St James' Stakes at Royal Ascot

SUS-SEX APPEAL: Dawn Approach is on a hat-trick against Toronado (pic: Inpho)

Racing legend Mick Kinane is 2/2 with his Galway naps (Diplomat 9/10f, Rathlin 13/8) and the 13-time Irish Champion jockey marks your card at Goodwood and Ballybrit.

Mick Kinane’s Wednesday NAP
Lady of Glencoe, 3.35pm Galway

Goodwood, Ch4, 2,30pm

The Gordon Stakes has been used as a St Leger trial and Cap O’Rushes had a decent decent run behind Trading Leather in the Irish Derby.  He surprised a few there but John Gosden’s Excess Knowledge looks like he’ll appreciate the step up in trip to 1m 4f and he’s my idea of the likely winner.

Goodwood, Ch4, 3.05 pm

This is goingto be a tactically fascinating race. Dawn Approach hadn’t the best of preps for Royal Ascot after flopping in the Epsom Derby and should be better prepared this time. The stiff uphill start at Goodwood should help Kevin Manning settle the colt and I’d expect him to confirm the form with Toronado.

Goodwood, Ch4, 3.40 pm

Parbold ran a blinder when second to War Command in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot but I’d have a slight doubt whether he will be as effective over 7f.  Toormore won at Leicester over 6f on his debut and the Richard Hannon/Richard Hughes combo are always to respected with their sprinters. But I’d take a chance with Charlie Appleby’s Outstrip for the Godolphin team who made a pleasing winning debut at Newmarket over this 7f trip.

Galway, RTE 1 4.45 pm

Tough race to call with Alkali and Darwins Fox both with chances but I’ll side with Willie Mullins’ dual bumper winner Union Dues to deliver.

Antiquus is 6lb lower when possibly an unlucky second here last September and can see off The Alarm Clock and possibly Rock Band who has an each-way chance.

Galway, ATR, 6.40 pm

Just the four runners and Dermot Weld’s Lucky Kitten should start favourite. Dessie Hughes doesn’t have many Flat horses and his Indian Icon was third at Leopardstown last time out and could be a bit of value.

Galway, ATR, 7.10 pm

There’s no point backing Jayed Jidan at long odds on but Passagere can beat the rest home in the forecast or betting without the favourite.
