I saw Paddy Power at Galway yesterday, and I’m pleased to report he looked like a destroyed man, a broken man, after we had one of those results to dream of when our Galway Hurdle hopes – Missunited (7/1) and Make your Mark (16/1) – finished first and third in one of the hardest handicaps of the season.
Well done to Michael Winters with the winner – he’s a great lad and came with great support. Yeeehaaa!
However, in this game you are only as good as your last winner and while we have been flying of late we know it can all go wrong very quickly. Hopefully not today!
There is little doubt MASTERSTROKE (1.55pm) is the class act in the Glorious Stakes although like big rival Aiken he’s been off the track a long time. His third in the Arc was excellent – although it was a shocking renewal on terrible ground – and provided he handles this faster surface he may simply outclass his rivals.
I wonder if GLORY AWAITS (2.30pm) might land a decent pot in the Group 3 Bonhams Stakes. He was second in the 2,000 Guineas and beaten about the same distance when fifth in the St James’s Palace Stakes. That might be good enough here.
The Group 2 sprint is a wide open event. It might prove a bonkers idea, but I think a few quid each-way on MEDICEAN MAN (3.40) is worth a try. He was only beaten just over a length by Slade Power last time and five lengths by Sole Power in the King’s Stand Stakes. Prior to that he won well at Haydock. This big field might suit him.
Finally, I want PAVLOSK (4.50pm) to bounce back to her best in the Group 3 Oak Tree Stakes She ran a shocker at Royal Ascot, but I am sure she is better than that and it’s always excellent to have Ryan Moore on your side. Good luck! Boom!
