Championship previews | Blackburn Rovers
Real Championship football fans give the Paddy Power Blog their honest previews for the new season. Here’s Rovers fan Russell Adams (@Blackburn Noise) on how to forget last year’s nightmare season and Jordan Rhodes’ scoring record.
State of play: Blackburn had an unbelievably bad season last term. Every Rovers fan will want to forget it as quickly as possible. Four managers in less than a year and nearly relegated again!
How’s the gaffer? Hopefully Gary Bowyer can continue his great work with the team this season and push towards the Premier League. The players want to play for him, and he wants to do well with the club so fingers crossed it works out for all concerned.
Terrace hero: Jordan Rhodes has another big season ahead of him. The 23-year-old has become an absolute hero already at Ewood Park and he is ready for the next step. The question is whether Blackburn can offer him that in a very short space of time. Without his goals last season, we would have been down.
Big-time Charlie: There are a few ‘Big-time Charlies’ at the club. Danny Murphy was one but thankfully his contract has been terminated. Bradley Orr is another – We need him off the payroll badly!
Worst away ground in the Championship and why? Turf Moor has to be the worst away ground. Not just because it’s the home of our arch rivals Burnley, but because they still have wooden seats and the place is just miserable.
Which Championship side have the best away fans? Surprisingly, it has to be Millwall. They sing and cheer the whole game and create a good atmosphere at away grounds. Leeds and Forest have a decent away support too and are worth a mention.
Who is your dream Championship signing? We need a decent left back to help tighten up the defence and a creative midfielder to support the front line. I heard David Moyes and Derek Shaw are good buddies so maybe Shaw can convince Patrice Evra to Ewood and possibly get Tugay or Paul Scholes to come out of retirement…
What is your best terrace chant? The best chant on the terraces is a lovely song we sign to fierce rivals Burnley. A real classic!
‘Your mum’s your dad, your dad’s your mum, you’re interbred, you Burnley scum!’
